Soya bean, is the second crop dominant however it is only utilized by cattle and sheep after harvesting as crop residue

Backgrounding

This is one of the programmes that Maszi runs throughout the year. All weaner calves preferably males that are not selected to be part of future breeding cattle are introduced to pastures with allows us to serve a semi intensive market.

Feedlot

Post weaning, calves that are not selected undergo fattening through planted pastures to achieve maximum weights that are acceptable for market. Therefore, the Maszi backgrounding programme is the bridge for feedlot to reach early slaughter weight, good carcass weight and required dressing percentage. The backgrounding programme and feedlot allows Maszi to create a value chain allowing us to have greater control of the market.

Baler production

Maszi wants to have more in the feed production value chain by introducing baler making into our production which in turn assists our backgrounding programme and our feedlot in providing grain for the custom feed we make. This provides a competitive advantage as it would decrease costs in dry seasons and it would provide nearby local farmers with more accessibility to bales. Currently Maszi produces 300 bales per cycle which can be doubled.

Organization and staffing

We recruit staff from the nearby villages and have them trained in the
Different divisions of his enterprise per the skills audit report.
